swelling above the knee

Postby Dash » Sun Jun 03, 2012 7:41 pm

I am fairly new to the forums but I have read quite a bit of the posts. What I am experiencing is a swelling above my knee on my inner thigh which seems to have a really hard inner core that becomes extremely painful. I cant believe how hard it is inside and I am not sure what to do about it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

We also have a hard time keeping wraps up on my thigh they just seem to slip or roll down no matter what we try.

Hey "Dash"

I am wondering if perhaps you have a pocket of infection in there. As strange as it sounds, I have had several infections start in the exact same place you are mentioning.

Sometimes, we have pockets of tissue that is especially fibrotic and because of it, it is more difficult for our immune systems (what's left of it) to hit that infection and do away with it. You may should be on a course of antibiotic.

I would very definately get to the doctor and contact you lymphedema therapist to let them know.

Let me know how you do!

Thanks for getting back to me. I was wondering the same thing but since I haven't had a fever I didn't think it was an infection. I have had terrible night sweats though but that could be from other medication, recently started prozac and methotrexate and was on prednisone for a bit. What worries me is the higher risk of infection from the methotrexate and having lymphedema as I have had quite a few bouts of cellulitis in the past.

I let my PT know during my last visit and asked if we could work on the swelling and she pushed so hard on it I accidently yelled an expletive
